Walt Wednesdays: 1249 Tripp Avenue

In 1901 on December 5th in Chicago, Illinois, a baby was born in a house built by his father at 1249 Tripp Avenue. The boy's name would soon be known by billions around the world- Walt Disney.

The family would soon move out of Chicago, but the simple house still stands, over 100 years later. Last week, the company founded by Mr. Disney pledged $250,000 to assist in preserving his birthplace for future generations.

Toontown Tuesdays: DuckTales, Woo-Hoo!

Disney has released a sneak peek at the new DuckTales cartoon that will premiere next year on DisneyXD!

Based on this artwork, it looks like the show will take a page from the Carl Barks comic books that inspired the original show. While the character design from the 1980's show "Disney-Fied" the characters, this design hints at a more Barksian look. However the actual show ends up looking, it will be exciting to see how it all comes together in 2017!

Music Mondays: Mater's Junkyard Jamboree

Cars Land at Disney California Adventure in the DISNEYLAND Resort is a hyper-themed area inside the theme park that is just like walking into the popular film series. One of the more colorful characters is Mater, a good ol' boy tow truck who lives in Radiator Springs.

Disney knew it had to include a Mater themed attraction and it did- Mater's Junkyard Jamboree. The attraction allows guests to ride Mater's tractors while he sings along.

While Mater's voice actor, Larry the Cable Guy, performed the songs he apparently forgot the lyrics at one point. While he assumed that version wouldn't be used, it was included as a joke during a special preview before the land opened. It remained in the rotation, though it is a rarity to hear it.

Mater's Square Dance
(Regular Lyrics)

Hey, everybody! Come greet your partner! Bow to your partner! Let's see them rearview mirrors! Check your guages, flash your lights, float to the left, float to the right, scatter and scooping and away we go!

Jump in the back and swing and swing little partner.
Fare the well, fare the well.
Jump in the back and swing little partner now.

Wheel around, hitches down.
Keep those tractors rolling right along.

If you got a stick, then slip the clutch, slip the clutch. Alright, everybody. Double donut in a figure 8! Over pass to the under pass! Let's see a four leaf clover!

Jump in the back and swing and swing little partner. Fare the well, fare the well.
Jump in the back and swing little partner now.

Wheel around, hitches down.
Keep those tractors rolling right along.

Top your tights! Cool your heads! Flap your fenders! Show them treads! Fold the line now, mancure quirl. Let's see a California twirl!

Jump in the back and swing and swing little partner.
Fare the well, fare the well.
Jump in the back and swing little partner now.

Wheel around, hitches down.
Keep those tractors rolling right along

Freaky Fridays: Missouri in California?

When DISNEYLAND was being designed, Walt Disney was dissatisfied with how Tom Sawyer Island was being designed. It just didn't look right to him, so he took the blueprints home one night and brought them back changed to look exactly the way he had envisioned.

Having grown up in Missouri, just like the fictional Tom Sawyer, Walt Disney had an affinity for the state and the state was proud of him. A longstanding rumor is that Tom Sawyer Island was legally annexed into Missouri and guests making the boat ride to the island were crossing state lines. It was claimed that the park didn't sell merchandise or food on the island because it didn't want to worry about different sales tax rates or corporate taxes.

The story is partially true. The state of Missouri "annexed" the island in an honorary ceremony. The island itself remained legally inside California and actually sold items up until the mid-1990's, charging California sales tax and following California laws.

Toontown Tuesdays: Pig Head

The first trailer for Who Framed Roger Rabbit featured a bizarre scene in which Eddie Valiant appears to have an animated pig head. Eagle-eyed viewers who saw the film as actually released might have wondered what had happened to the scene.

In the original cut of the movie, the goonish weasels menace Eddie and force the pig head onto him after a nightmarish sequence. He is forced to take a dip shower to remove the pig head and that is why he is shown finishing a shower in the final cut of the film when he is visited by Jessica Rabbit.
